Refereum Update

Hope you are well

Before we begin, we want to start by saying we hope you are healthy and safe. It’s been a challenging time with the global COVID-19 pandemic and most of all we’re hoping you have finally had the time to play your backlog of games. We also very much hope you, your family, and your friends, are safe both physically and mentally. To see the gaming and streaming community band together during this time is yet another reminder of how proud we are to be in this industry with you. Thank you for aiding fellow gamers and empathizing with all during this difficult time.

Refereum recently

From top AAA games like Fortnite and Battlefield, to countless beloved indies, Refereum allowed game developers to usher in a new-age of marketing by rewarding gamers. Millions of gamers have reaped all kinds of rewards from Refereum. Along this journey, we learned about what you liked - and what you didn’t. We learned what worked for game developers - and what didn’t. We took the Refereum platform offline to create that fresh slate. While we know that decision was frustrating for the short term, we are confident it was the right move for the long term. Since then, we’ve spoken to users and game developers about what a new Refereum would look like.

The future

We are still learning and iterating on your and game developer feedback - Refereum is still evolving. Before it’s launched, we don’t want to make promises about what will and will not be there - as it might change. We want to update you on what we’re focussing on for the new Refereum. When we’ve been working on the new Refereum, we’ve distilled our top 3 priorities to share:

1. Focus on simplicity
From 2017 to 2020, Refereum quickly expanded to solve many different types of user’s problems. Refereum became a jack of all trades, and a master of none. The new Refereum will fix that with a laser focus and an even more accessible user experience.

2. Streams over everything
We’ve heard you loud and clear - it’s all about streaming. You’re not just watching game streams on Youtube and Twitch anymore, there’s a lot of new popular streaming sites that should feel like their part of the Refereum experience. We first responded to this when we partnered with TRON and DLive to bring you rewards for watching on other services. Next, the new Refereum will support all these new ways to watch. We’ll also streamline this experience by focusing on rewards for watching streams rather than other ways like playing in game. More of what you want.

3. Extra agile
The new Refereum platform benefits from a rebuild of it’s technical foundation. This enables Refereum to be updated easily and more frequently based on your feedback. Meaning we can add the right ideas and rapidly deploy bug fixes for Refereum.

We’ve used these as pillars for the new Refereum and are happy where they have led us. Remember, this is not an all inclusive list - we’re excited to show you more.

Your feedback

As always, we want to say thank you to our community for their continued support and feedback during this rebuild. Your feedback guides us into building the right new version of Refereum that best solves your problems. We’re excited for you to see the new Refereum.

If you would like to be a beta tester before launch - or get in touch for any reason, feel free to email team@refereum.com.

Wishing you, your family, and friends great health during this time.
See you online,
~Dylan and the entire Refereum team
